Morgan Kleypas

(Beginning Piano)
Morgan began taking piano in Waco, TX, when she was nine years old.  She learned mostly classical music and some jazz, but it wasn’t until she moved to San Antonio that she focused on a more contemporary style.  She took lessons from her worship pastor at Grace Point Church and learned a lot from him.  Morgan will be a sophomore in high school in the 2011 – 2012 academic year and attends classes at HAAC Day.  She has a very deep love of music.

From Morgan’s piano teacher:

To Whom It May Concern:

I understand Morgan Kleypas has expressed interest in teaching piano within your organization.  As someone who taught her piano for a couple of years in San Antonio, I feel confident she would be able to teach students at the beginner level.  Additionally, she has some limited knowledge on contemporary piano that could be beneficial to beginner students interested in learning contemporary piano.

 Gail Smith

(Art)

Mrs. Smith earned a BA from Trinity University and has been the chairman of the Fine Arts Department at San Antonio Christian School for 18 years.  She has been teaching drawing, architecture, sculpture, pottery and painting from a classical point of view for over 20 years.  She was trained by her close friend and mentor, Carl Rice Embrey, a landscape artist from Hamilton, Texas, who has been named the State of Texas’ Artist of the Year and has his own room at the McNay Art Museum where his works are showcased.  Mr. Embrey is considered one of the nation’s greatest landscape artists and sells his work out of the David Findley Gallery in New York.  Mrs. Smith has worked as a professional artist and illustrator as well as an interior designer before she want to work at SACS.  She has sponsored numerous workshops for teachers and students, teaching them the fundamentals of drawing and painting.

Mrs. Smith’s students have earned over $1 million in scholarship money from the San Antonio Stockshow and Rodeo.  Typically, each year out of hundreds of entries in the contest, over 50% of the winners in the top 25 student artists are Mrs. Smith’s students.  In addition, she trains and assists students in the development of a portfolio during their high school years to use in applying for college scholarships.   Her students have earned anywhere from $6,000 per year to a full scholarship based on their high school portfolios.  As you can tell, Mrs. Smith is all about helping her students earn money for college through the artwork that is done in her classes!  Her strength is training students to draw and paint with no previous experience, interest or demonstrated talent.  She teaches art from a biblical perspective and believes that drawing, painting and the creation of art in general are the direct result of learned skill and that anyone can learn to do it very well.  Her explanation for this belief is that we are all created in the image of a creative God.  Since He is creative, we are, too!
